Meditation

Over Lake Michigan
lightning moves
like the fingers
of a pianist
nuancing Chopin.
I've come to witness secrets
lessons of light and darkness
brujo magic
in the sky's thunder.
Remember the film Black Orpheus?
Death is a Macumba priest
dressed as death
for Carnival.
Tonight I'm Orpheus
singing old boleros
to my love Euridyce
who's back
from lands
where sleep
never ends.
And she is... air.
Sacred smoke
contained beside me
as woman,
whose impeccable aura
flashes luminous
through the pores
of her skin
whose texture
my fingers memorize.
