Cárdenas is currently writing and performing with Sonido Ink(quieto), a Chicago-based Chicano spoken word and music ensemble that recently released its first CD, Chicano, Illnoize: The Blue Island Sessions (DeSPICable Records, 2001). She received a 2000 Illinois Arts Council Finalist Award and has taught courses in Creative Writing, Composition, and U.S. Latino Literature and Culture at the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, and the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum (Chicago). She currently teaches English at Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, and serves on the board of directors of the Guild Complex.
