from "Swimming in the Ocean" Reading through the paper, I consider running an ad. WANTED: A man who’s compassionate, respectful and supportive &emdash; but not married. A man who, regardless of age, has already had his mid-life crises, i.e., knows what the hell he’s about and how to get there. A man of sound intellect who’s not lacking in spirit. A man who’s honest, sensitive and highly communicative. A man who can meet me in the middle in oh so many ways. A man who will not only accept me for who I am, but actually encourage me to be myself. A man capable of functioning in everyday practicalities, but not lacking in creative imagination. A man who’s beautiful—but not gay (bi is fine—as long as I can watch). A man who’s capable of monogamy, or at least capable of not lying about his indiscretions and responsible enough to practise safe sex during sessions of penile wander. A man willing to vocalize his sexual satisfaction openly and honestly. A man who is a sophisticated and inventive lover, willing to experiment. A man who knows when to back off—but who also knows how to hold on. A man who wouldn’t usually read, and would never respond to, an ad like this one.
