Karen Lee Osborne

Karen Lee Osborne, with William J. Spurlin, has edited "Reclaiming the Heartland: Lesbian & Gay Voices From The Midwest" (Univ. of Minnesota Press, 1996). She is on the English faculty at Columbia College Chicago, where she was named Teacher of the Year for 1996. Her novels include "Carlyle Simpson" (Academy Chicago, 1986), which was a winner of the Friends of American Writers Award and a Chicago Foundation for Literature Award; and "Hawkwings" (Third Side Press, 1991). She has also written for film. Her story "Getting What You Came for" was the basis for the 1992 film A Common Flower, by Doreen Bartoni, screened at film festivals in the U.S. and overseas. Locally, Osborne leads writing workshops for River Oak Arts, in west suburban Chicago.
